Laser body sculpting or laser liposculpture is a new term used to describe fat removal and skin tightening achieved with the new laser liposuction technique. I use the new Aspire® SlimLipo® laser liposuction machine made by Palomar Medical in Burlington, Massachusetts to perform laser body sculpting. The results I have achieved using the SlimLipo® laser liposculpture technique have been very exciting.

The term “body contouring” has been use in Plastic Surgery to refer to procedures designed to improve the general appearance of the body shape. Traditionally body contouring has been used to describe breast augmentation, tummy tuck, thigh and buttock lift and arm lift and other surgical procedures. The problem for many people is the scarring associated with surgery as in the tummy tuck.

With the advent and popularization of liposuction, the term liposculpture or liposuction body contouring was used to describe the use of liposuction to improve body contour with the use of liposuction as opposed to surgical procedures which required skin removal.

While I have been reluctant to use the term body sculpture to describe some of the results achieved with traditional liposuction, however the results I am achieving with the new Aspire® SlimLipo® laser liposuction unit are truly refined and worthy of the use of the term laser body sculpting, liposculpture or laser body contouring.

Notice in the pictures below the appearance of the “six pack” area of the abdomen of the patient. Also notice how the waist has been sculpted by melting fat and tightening the skin. Using the SlimLipo® procedure I was able to melt fat and tighten skin so that the contour of the abdominal muscles is clearly seen after the procedure. This type of result was impossible using traditional liposuction and or abdominoplasty surgery. The term laser liposculpture certainly is appropriate in this case.

How It Works
The small laser liposculpture fiber that is used to dissolve fat and tighten the skin is the size of a pencil point-compare this to a liposuction cannula that is the size of your little finger. The tiny SlimLipo® laser fiber allows precise liposculpture and laser body sculpting never before possible with large liposuction cannulas. The fat beneath your skin is dissolved by the SlimLipo® laser fiber, not “ripped out” as is done with traditional liposuction and liposculpture. Body sculpting with traditional liposuction liposculpture leaves wavy lines and contour deformities on the skin. Laser body sculpting or laser liposculpture with the new SlimLipo laser fiber allows precise fat removal and skin tightening which does not create deformities in the skin and leaves a smooth skin surface after liposculpture.

Why Laser Liposculpture is Better for Body Contouring
SlimLipo® laser body sculpting or liposculpture tightens the skin at the same time it dissolves fat, so you will not have loose sagging skin after fat is removed. Body sculpting or liposculpture requires not only fat removal but tightening of the skin. Prior to the SlimLipo® laser body sculpting technique, invasive surgery was required to remove loose skin after liposuction to create body contouring or sculpting.
